Understanding Laser Tattoo Removal: What to Expect
Laser tattoo removal uses targeted laser energy to break tattoo pigment into smaller particles. Your body gradually clears these particles over time.
Results vary from person to person. Tattoo colour, ink density, location, age, previous treatments and your skin’s healing response can all affect the treatment plan.

How Does It Work?
The laser targets the tattoo pigment while aiming to protect the surrounding skin. Dark black and blue inks often respond well, while lighter or complex colours may require a different approach or additional sessions.
Most tattoos require multiple treatments. Sessions are normally spaced several weeks apart so the skin can heal and your body has time to clear pigment. A consultation is the best way to discuss realistic expectations for your individual tattoo.
What Happens After a Session?
Use the image above as a guide to the usual healing process:
• Before treatment — We assess the tattoo, skin condition and your goals.
• Immediately after — The skin may look temporarily white or “frosted,” with redness, warmth or mild swelling.
• First few days — Redness and tenderness can continue. Some clients may experience small blisters. Do not pick or pop them.
• Following 1–2 weeks — The area gradually settles as it heals. The tattoo may begin to look lighter, but fading continues gradually between sessions.
Before Your Appointment
Avoid tanning, self-tanner and excessive sun exposure. Please tell us about medications, allergies, medical conditions, previous laser treatments or any history of cold sores if the treatment area is near the mouth.
Treatment should not be performed on skin that is sunburned, irritated, infected or broken.
Aftercare
Keep the area clean and follow the personalized aftercare instructions provided after your appointment. Avoid scratching, picking or removing any scabs or blisters. Avoid excessive heat, pools and hot tubs while the area is healing.
Protect the treated skin from direct sun exposure. Once the area has healed, use broad-spectrum sunscreen as advised.
If redness, pain, swelling or discharge increases rather than improves, please contact a healthcare professional and let us know.
